I'm reading up on the French Revolution for homework, but I didn't quite understand what the overall reason why Parisians invaded the Bastille for? My text book claims they needed weapons. If they did need weapons, what did they need them for? Here's a quote...
"The streets buzzed with rumors that royal troops were going to occupy the capital. 800 Parisians assembled outside the Bastille... The crowd demanded weapons and gunpowder believed to be stored there."
Another side question is, was it a bad thing for Parisians that royal troops would occupy the capital?
Thank you for any help!!!
