Years ago on PBS or the local state network there was an hour long special about a guy in his late teens, who was severely mentally and physically handicapped. It showed that despite his challenges he was extremely gifted in math and the arts. His disorder caused him to constantly move around in convulsive actions, with his expresses constantly contorting. Just the task of opening a peanut butter jar and some crackers was extremely violent , as if he were living life in a constant grandmal seizure.
Toward the end of the show they showed how very slowly they translated word after word through noises only his family and doctors could recognize and he said some very profound things about his disability. Also they attached a helmet to his head with a paintbrush and he began doing Self-portraits of himself that went on to be shown in galleries.

does anyone know his name or remember this tv special and know ehre i might be able to find it and watch it?
