S spartan2012 New member Apr 2, 2009 #2 Thoroughly defeated in the Peloppenesian Wars, Athens was already well passed its prime. If anything, Greek civilization was on the decline, as the Romans were more or less at the height of their power, and they ruled the Greeks as they saw fit.
