During the First World War the newly-formed RAF flew its missions from grass strips in France. Since these were presumably very hurriedly built what sort of kit would they have had stationed there?
The aircraft in service were Sopwith Camels and B.E.2s but what sort of support vehicles were there?
I've seen an aircraft starter based on a Model T Ford 9The Hucks starter) and steam lorries were apparently used, but I'm wondering what else would have been around.
Any ideas appreciated,
