What types of fish go well with Ram Cichlids?

I know they're community fish, but I don't want to put any livebearers (mollies, platys, etc) in with them. I was thinking of dwarf rainbowfish...has anyone ever tried that combination? Any suggestions for other fish? I know most tetras go well with them...but I was looking for something a little more...interesting. Also, they have long fins and most tetras are fin-nippers.
I have a 26 gallon bowfront aquarium. I've been doing the fish thing for about 20 years now, so I know about putting too many fish in a small tank. :)
I live in California, and GloFish are illegal here. :( good idea though!!!

Any community fish should do fine as long as they aren't fin nippers like tiger barbs.

Most tetras would work...neons tetras, cardinal tetras, rummynose tetras stay small and look great when they swim tightly together(don't know your tank size, but small fish+low bioload = you can have a decent sized school of fish swimming together). You can also try zebra danios. You can get them with a fluorescent gene from jellyfish("glo fish"). They're not dyed and the gene doesn't cause the fish any pain. http://www.glofish.com/

A school of cory catfish or otocinclus for the bottom and algae/leftover food cleaning would be good.

If you have a 29g+, angelfish would be a nice addition. They are okay in smaller tanks when they're small, but need a minimum of 29g once they get bigger because of their height(from their fins).

Good luck :D

There are smaller Rainbowfish...and there are Blue-Eyes (same family).
Also some smaller Gudgeons (Looks like I'm on an Australian kick here).

Modern tank-raised German Blue Rams can handle a little wider range of pH and hardness...they are being bred in concrete vats nowdays in parts of the world. That wider range opens you up to a wider variety (Cherry Barbs? Galaxy Rasbora?Bumblebee Goby?).
Rams are cichlids...they can handle themselves. Most of what I've mentioned (probably all) will work for you.
