What types of fish can be betta tank mates?

If you have a non heated and filtered tank I would suggest a dwarf frog. I had a male veil tail in with a dwarf frog and they lived in peace for years. But if you have a heated filtered good size tank try some tetras :)

he shouldn't neeeeed mates but probably one of those ground swimming catfish or a snail would leave him alone. other fish cant live very well in a bowl though.

Any fish without flashy colorful colors will do and isn't similar to a Betta like a Guppy.

Don't put Bettas with Fin-Nippers because Bettas don't fight other fish that aren't in their Target list so your Betta could get hurt.

Actually I heard that its not a good idea to put another fish in with any kind of beta fish, even if they are the same kind. Most beta fish will fight the other fish until they are dead.

How big is your tank? I wouldn't recommend these fish for the average, rough-and-tumble community tank as it is likely that it will become a target from potential fin-nippers. Despite this most small tetras, barbs and rasboras should be fine.

Some suggested tankmates:

Cherry barbs (Puntius titteya)
Ember tetras (Hyphessobrycon amandae)
Pentazona barbs (Puntius pentazona)
Checkered barbs (Puntius oligolepis)
Microrasbora sp.
Harlequin rasboras (Trigonostigma heteromorpha)
Pygmy corydoras (Corydoras pygmaeus)

Species to avoid however include Buenos Aires tetras (Hemigrammus anisitsi) and Tiger barbs (Puntius tetrazona).

if he is still young most anything but when he gets older he will become instinctively aggressive and attack anything else in the tank. and sometimes he will die from hurting himself as well. so its probably not a great idea to have "tankmates" with an adult betta.

almost any community fish.....i hate how people say they are crazy aggressive fish...they are only aggressive towards other males and from time to time guppies......this myth that they kill any fish comes from people that don't own them and also spreed the myth that they need small tanks...none of which is true........they are great community fish a live with most tetras, and live breeds (mollies, platies and swordtails) great.....just stay away from fish that nip fins as the betta is a slow fish with bright fins.....so just look for fish that are community....just no cichlids or barbs......

i have always kept bettas in large community tank.....
