2000 Ford Contour SE front wheel drive.
Has over 100 thousand miles on it.

I read "For older Ford automatics and certain imports, Type "F" is usually required. Most Fords since the 1980s require "Mercon" fluid, which is Ford's equivalent of Dexron II"

so Which type of transmission fluid should be used?
Type F or Mercon/Dexron II ?
High Mileage ATF or regular ATF?
Also Best Place to get the AT filter -- Autozone/O'Reily Auto parts/ Ford Dealer?
About the AT Flush-
I read " check it first if the fluid is dark or smells then dont flush it all that will do is "wash" off the clutches and bands, etc. Then you are in worse shape"
Is this true?
Thanks.
