What type of movie/DVD file is compatible to play on a TV?

Pls help me. i recently downloaded a mp4 file, i put it on a usb then connected on our TV, but it doesnt played the file. HElp me.. Ty

many computers have HDMI ports these days. play the file on your computer and connect it to your TV with an HDMI cable so you can play it through your TV (assuming of course that your TV has an HDMI port).

all dvd file types are compatible to play on a television being that it has nothing to do with the television and everything to do with the freaking dvd player.... duh!
