what type of mono filament fishing line should i get?

i am going after medium sized fish. I need to know what poundage of line i should get, and what brand is good but affordable, thanks!
 
a medium size crappie is a lot smaller than a medium size catfish. first decide which you will be spending more time with.
for crappie and bluegill you might want 4 or 6lb line. bass and cats are likely to require up to 15. bigger for some cats.
saltwater is a whole different story. lots more range of sizes.
berkley big game is a very good sturdy line. premium lines don't have to cost an awful lot more. l use maxima and sufix siege mostly. they don't cost so much more and don't become as wiry and stiff.
 
I like Berkley big game. as far as what size it kinda depends. What is med. sized? 2lb bass or trout or 5lb catfish? I would say 8-12lb should be good. If fishing in cover (grass, brush, ect) go with like a 12 or heavier. Open water you can go lighter like 6-10lb
 
I was just gonna say. This is a perfect question for Brandon. Listen to him. He's a good angler.

I use the same line on my light to medium rigs.
