is sand good if so what kind.if not what type is and what colors.i want kind of natural look cause i have dark blue and i dont like it.

black sand

sand looks really cool and the black colour brings out the fish colours

EDIT: bubbly88 multi coloured gravel actually makes the fish's colours fade andd i think it looks takky.
sand (from an aquarium shop) is perfectly safe

it should be stirred up occasionally to prevent toxic gas build up

EDIT2: in my tadpole tank i have
4 parts fine silica sand (it does promote algae)
to
1 part black sand
and it looks really cool

We have a Betta fish and owned a few goldfishes and the type of gravel we prefer is the multi-colored one. It really brings out the colors of the fish! As for sand, I never tried that and wouldn't either because I imagine it would make the water cloudy. Not even sure if it would be healthy for the fish. Gravel that you purchase at a pet store (or even Wal-Mart) has been treated especially for aquariums. Good luck!

2 parts brown gravel 1 part white gravel. The brown makes a nice natural look and the white is nice for a little bit of variation and it doesn't look out of place amongst the brown.

sand is natural and closer to their environment choice but do not use an under gravel filter because it will clog

Beach-colored sand would look the most natural in my opinion.
Gravel is not sand...but if all you care about is having the natural look then go with sand. I personally use gravel though, it's easier to clean for me.
