i bought a used 1998 Honda Civic EX and it didnt come with an owner's manual so can someone tell me what grade of gasoline does it take?

87 octane unleaded is what is required.

higher octane is two things.
a waste of money and will cause a decrease in performance and mileage.

Comes out of a pump. You can put any of them in it. All grades are meant for automotive engines, and none will do damage to the engine. If you are gonna compare them fuel economy wize do it equally, (a whole tank vs a whole tank on the same terrain) Not one tank done in the city and the other measured on mainly highway miles.....same time of the year. Then you have a REAL idea and whether it is worth it.

personally i use the premium i know its more expensive but i find to get way better gas mileage. if it seems too much go down to the regular unleaded. i cant stand the super-unleaded i have a 1997 honda accord and everytime i fill up with that i seem to only get about 200 miles in a tank wehre as im at about 120 with a lil under 3/4 of a tank with reagular unleaded.
