I never buy new. The car loses thousands of dollars in value the minute you drive it off the dealer's lot. You can get a pretty good used car for $10,000, and would not have to finance a penny. We got a good used Toyota Corolla for $8,000 with only 32,000 miles on it. We routinely drive our cars (Subaru and Nissan, usually) to well over 200,000 miles, so we will look at anything with under 50,000 miles on the odometer in our preferred list of models and manufacturers.
