What type of bike lock should I get for college?

I'm thinking of getting a coil lock for my bike when I move into college in the fall, but the coil's just too hard to handle and use; it's hard to wrestle it around both tires. The alternative is the U-shaped lock, which is probably a lot easier to use. To you college students who lock their bikes on campus, which type of lock is easier to use, and is more secure? I was thinking of getting two U-shaped locks (one for each wheel). What did you find to work better, and what do most college students use? Thanks.
 
Two u-locks would be an unnecessary amount of weight to haul around. One u-lock (to lock frame) and one cable or chain (to secure wheels) is the way to go. Get good quality locks. Kryptonite Evolution u-locks are very good, not too heavy, and not overwhelmingly expensive. Other thoughts:

Don't ride too fancy of a bike

Lock it up better than your neighbor's bike

Don't leave it outside overnight

Don't lock it up out of sight

Students that don't do the above end up buying another bike
 
Get a U lock and a cable to secure the front wheel and the seat. If you have a quick release on your seat post change it to a clamp with an allen bolt. You want to secure the rear wheel to something solid by going through the rear triangle.
