What training can I do for bike riding without a bike?

Question is self explanitory- I'm getting a bike in a couple of months or so and I will do some pretty heavy duty biking at that time. Problem is I am pretty out of shape as it stands now... Is there any specific training I can do without any equipment? Or just start running to get my endurance up?

Thanks

I enjoy biking, walking and jogging. Like you, I have to get me another bike. I have a habit of slacking off my routines and find it necessary to get back into shape. The #1thing I've come to believe is that I have to make whatever I do FUN. I wouldn't recommend you start out jogging/running right off the bat, especially if you are no conditioned to it. Get out and walk. Establish at least 2 different routes, maybe of different distances and alternate your workout. Time your walks with a stop watch and work at improving your time. Walk each day or every other day. After the first week, jog parts of the route. As your endurance builds, increase the jogging distance. You'll be building endurance and trimming lbs while waiting to get your bike. If you have access to weight equipment, throw in some light- weight strength training if that's something you enjoy. Again, the most important thing is to make it fun and not work. This is what works for me and I hope I've been somewhat helpful. You just have to do what works best for you. I don't know your age, but I'm 51 and recently began walking, jogging and strength training again. Let's cheer each other on...Good luck...timitot2

If you do not have access to an athletic center, run a lot and do exercises like lunges.

Training for cycling without any equipment, not really. The only thing I can think of would be climbing stairs. Find a long stair case somewhere where you can run up and down it. Running will help your cardiovascular system but wont do much for cycling.
