what tools do we need to change a front crankshaft oil seal on a dodge intrepid?

It is a 2000 3.2L Intrepid. My husband is a mechanic and knows quite a bit but when his buddy looked it up he said he would need a special tool and to take it to the dealership. So my question is exatly what "special tool" do i need cause info says its a 14 hour job which would be pretty pricey at the dealership.
does it matter what type of seal puller cause i found some online for under $10. what about a seal installer and seal protector? do i need those? or is it just convenient?
