What to use for Baja Bug sound proofing?

The entire interior is stripped out of my Baja Bug and predictably, it is extremely loud while driving. I am wondering what to use for sound dampening material. The former owner had a piece of one-inch thick foam rubber glued to the inside of the roof but it was crumbling away so I removed it. I was thinking of stuffing the body cavities behind the side panels with fiberglass insulation, but have a feeling that won't work. I like the foam rubber inside the headliner idea. Also, I am installing a piece of chrome diamond plate on the firewall in front of the engine. Should I plan some kind of sound deadening material there? What about that paint-on stuff they use for boom-type car stereo systems? Any ideas from anybody?
