what to look for if i want to hook up a vcr to a dvd recorder?

i understand that you need yellow and white outputs and inputs but i'm seraching for a dvd recorder on ebay and a lot of them dont show the outputs or inputs but they list the specifications of the recorder and i want to know what spec do i look for to see if i can record off of a vcr. thanks
