what to expect at a hookah lounge, first time?

I'm going alone just to get out of the house. I've never been to one so i don't even know what to do coming through the door. does someone seat you or do you pick out your own, or is there a front desk you approach and pay first? do you pay after you're done, or get up and leave without a word? I know they take care of the hookah & all that for you and i know i'm over-thinking it. but just a little run-down on a typical 'hookah session' from a regular is appreciated. thx
