What to do when my dog gets her heat cycle?

I'm getting a female dog this summer, and I know that unless I get her pre-spayed, my parents will probably put off getting her spayed for a bit.
My question is what to do when she gets her heat cycle? And also, how do I convince my parents to get her spayed?
