I know this is a long post but if you think you can help someone with acne please read on and answer my questions

I am 19 years and I started college at the end of this summer after taking a year off high school, during which I was acne free. Pictures taken of me as early as this summer show that I had no acne but for the past few months i have gotten a lot, and it has become worse and worse. It started with my forehead, and spread within a few months to my temples and cheeks.

Since it started i have been washing my face morning and night but it doesn't seem to help at all. I've even given myself scars from accidentally scratching some off while washing my face. I never had too much trouble with acne in my early teens but now when everyone has outgrown theirs I get it? I want to meet new people but now I have no confidence :(

I feel that it's out of control and all I can do is watch my acne get worse. I'm sure I'm not the only one with this problem so I am hoping someone can offer guidance.

What should I be doing? I already mentioned I wash my face morning and night. Should I keep clean shaven? I make sure to clean my razor before shaving. I also wash my beRABheets and pillow cases often. I don't think it is due to stress because even though I started at college I felt very confident and not stressed at all. I avoid touching my face at all if possible. I haven't changed my diet, and I mostly drink water. What else could the acne be due to?

Is there anything I should not do?

Should I see a dermatologist? How would I go about doing that? Can I just ask my normal doctor about my acne? I'm afraid they would prescribe something harsh that causes more scars. I have been using Cetaphil since it started can you recommend something better?

If you read this all the way through and answer as many questions as possible i would be most appreciative.

i would recommend glytone mild gel wash(4.7% glycolic acid) followed by cerave moisturizing lotion. this regimen has transformed my skin.
