What to do about a misbehaving 4 year old in pre-school?

Happy Easter!

My four year old daughter is going through a stage where once or twice a week she gets into trouble at her preschool/daycare.. She acts out and the teachers tell me and I have even been there once and witnessed her behavior first hand (she did know I was there). Its getting to the point where they are just calling me to come get her. This happened today for the first time. This has to be stopped. It is just her thinking she does not have to listen to the teachers and adults. I can not just drop what i am doing to go and get her because she is misbehaving..
She has been punished a few times with time in the corner and having too to bed early and she responds to it for a day or two then she misbehaves again. Today she had audacity to ask me to go for ice cream when I picked her up early becasue she was misbehaving. We were pretty hard on her, my husband left work and met us at home to have a serious talk with her. It broke my heart but he gave her a spanking and made her sit in the corner awhile afterwards. I hope after she was spanked that she realizes we are dead serious about the behavior issue. I want her to realize now that she has to treat teachers with respect.
Have any of you been through this and do you have suggestions on getting her to behave in school? Do you think after today she will realize we are not playing around with this?
