Really ! A manufacturers warranty on a 10 year old car? What part of the world are you living in? Your experience with mechanics should not be so judgmental. Not all mechanics are bad. You just have to find someone you can trust. You said it came back worse than it went in. Although you did not indicate what the original problem was or what it is doing now,. Sometimes you fix one problem only to have it create another problem that should also have been repaired. We do not know any info on the vehicle or it`s condition, therefore hard to give you any real help
 
...won't have to deal with mech? I believe I have been taking advanatage of by a mechanic. This mechanic was a friend of a friend, so I thought I was in good hands, even though I didn't know him. My car came back worse than when it started. This is the first car that I owned and this is exactly why I have been very hesitant to buy a car because of dishonest mechanics.

My car is 10 years old, so I know that in the future other repairs will have to be done to it, but does the car qualify for a manufacturers' warranty so that I don't have to deal with any ole' mechanic?

And, if in the event I have to deal with a mechanic again what are some tips that I should keep in mind?

This bad mechanic experience has got me so angry and even if I had to pay thousands of dollars a year just to have peace of mind that I will not be taken advantage of I would do it. I'm a female, it's cold outside, and I can't be stranded on the side of the road like that just to be taken advantage by some dishonest mechanic.
