What sort of asian statue is this (pictures included)?

It's hard and seems to be made of some kind of rock. It's got alot of little cracks in it. It came in a box that has a silk lining. And I have no idea on what it's supposed to be of. Any ideas? Maybe also on how old this thing is supposed to be?
