...bear is in your path? Sorry for the double whammy... I just want to hike and no one I know is adventurous to do it with me. I live near a beautiful part of the Appalachian Trail called the Delaware Water Gap. But I have heard there are a lot of black bears, as well as some rattlesnakes and copperheads there.
First, what to do if I am alone and get bitten by a snake? Is there some special first aid kit to carry? Also, how can I avoid being bitten in the first place?
Second, how can I avoid bears and what should I do if there is a near in my path or I see one near me? Any advice on dealing with bears? Do I have to carry a shotgun?! I will also be hiking with my infant son on my back! And I don't own a gun nor do I know how to use one... But if I need one to fend off bears, I'll get one!
Are there any other things such as rabid animals I should watch out for? Thanks!
