What should I wear to a military ball?

My boyfriend, who is in the Navy ROTC, has invited me to a Military Ball.

We're in college so I'm not sure of the dress code. I know "slutty" dresses are inappropriate.
Super conservative? Or will that make me look ridiculous? What is the middle ground?
