What should I look for in a Jeep?

I'm looking to buy a 1999 to 2004 Jeep Wrangler and I was wondering if I should buy a manual or not and whether owning a soft top would be too much of a hassle in an urban area (people slicing into it)?

My current car is a manual transmission, and I prefer them, but I've heard a lot of people say that they're a pain for driving off road. Thanks

First and foremost, make sure you have a dealership and/or mechanic for your Jeep.

With the announcement that the parent company is declaring bankruptcy, buying a Jeep, new or used, is a dicy proposition. Unless you can obtain key parts and service, you're going to have a very expensive paperweight in your driveway.

I'm not being snide about this. Unless you can obtain service, don't buy it.
