What should I have to do to acquire a good posture?

A fitness specialist at my old job once told us that she tied a string around her waist (maybe on the belly button line??)

Im not sure how that would work. Hope this helps

If you try to imagine that there is a silk string attached from the top of your head to the silver cloud overhead, it will help you 'stand tall'. When sitting, do NOT slump.
A physical therapist taught me to sit and gently 'drop' my head to one side and let it 'hang' there for about 15 seconds; then do the other side; then repeat a few times-- increase to ten/15 times each side. Then, sit tall and turn your head and look over one shoulder, hold for about 15 seconds; then look over the Other shoulder; repeat both sides a few times -- increase to ten/15 times each side. Third stretch is to simply drop your chin to your chest (do NOT tip your chin up/head back) and let it sag/stretch for about 30 seconds.
I also suggest you check with a chiropractor. I have started going to one that does NOT do the 'snap-crackel-pop' techniques; he has a 'bed' that adjusts instead of cracking my joints. He also does a massage in conjunetion with the bed moving. So, when you are calling around, ask the individual who is making the appointment what type of procedure the doctor does.
IF you can NOT GO to a chiropractor, check out seeing a massage therapist or a physical / PT(NOT occupational / OT) therapist. IMO, the muscles are tense and are pulling your bones out of alignment.

Visit the doctor as soon as possible and make sure that everything is all right first. If the doctor tells you that you are fine, ask him/her for some posture tips and they will definitely help you out. If you are definite that you have no health problems, search for good posture tips in Yahoo. Good Luck!
