I went to the doctor yesterday to discuss some problems I have been having recently with severe anxiety/panic attacks. I have been having SEVERE panic attacks almost everyday and constant anxiety. I go days without sleep and when I do sleep, I wake up in the middle of the night and have a panic attack and can't get back to sleep. Anxiety is truly taking over my life, and only became worse after I was raped 2 weeks ago. I tried to explain to the doctor the severity of my situation, and he originally prescribed me a very low dose of Xanax, but then changed his mind and gave me a script for BuSpar. However, I am currently taking Celexa (Citalopram) and have read on several different websites that it is not safe to corabine these two drugs because it may lead to the developement of Serotonin Syndrome. Is this something I should address my doctor about? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. :)

First off I want to say I give my condolences as you are a victim of a shameless crime.

I agree with the mixing of the medication. You may try some relaxation CD's to sleep. Also in a situation such as yours you may want to try a different psychiatrist. Dosages for people that suffered a severe trauma such as you have are generally high starting out with. I believe I have heard anywhere from 3-10 mgs a day of Xanax. Don't quote me on that, but you can research this online. Try a different doc and see what the outcome is. Hope this helps!
