What should i do when it comes to sports?

Please bare with me because this might be a little long.

Alright so this is my problem, I am a great student when it comes to school and I'm also a pretty good athlete. This past year I quit all the sports I used to play (wrestling, Football, Baseball) due to nagging ankle injury's and besides the fact I really don't want sports to create problems for when I'm older.

So here is the predicament I love football and by love I mean it's way more than a game to me and it was one of the hardest decisions in my life to quit. Now they team I would be playing on is about to go to playoffs and I'm regretting not playing even though I'm not sure whether my body could handle it anymore.

Also another problem is when I do play the 3 sports I mentioned earlier I manage with around a 3.4 gpa. When I don't play sports I maintain a 4.0 gpa.

So next year should I play? It hurts for me to watch my team with practically my brothers out on the field winning and enjoying every bit of it while I'm in the stands. Also the last year I played I was the (star player) until I had a high ankle sprain that kept me out for the rest of the season.

Thank you very much for the responses you give me.
I agree totally but it's very difficult to watch your team do great with you not out there... =/
I understand what your saying and agree with you 110% on most everything you said. But I'm not a fair weather player and they all know that. I have played with them since 6th grade and we were always decent. I really could care less if we won a game next year I just love the game. As well as academics i agree that I could still keep up my grades it would take a lot more effort witch I'm afraid is what i lack =/.
oh and also this is my 4th high ankles sprain were on 3 occasions they said i nearly broke it. So at this point It some times hurt when i walk but I obviously could play through it.
