My in-laws live in another state. Months ago, my husband told me his mother planned to come and live with us from the time the baby is born until I go back to work six weeks later. She wants to be here for the birth, but she also assumed we'd want her help 24/7 when we bring our son home, because that's what she did for her daughter. The thing is, my whole family is in town with me, my mother and sister are off for the summer, and I really want their help first before anyone else. They know me best and I'm not worried about modesty or treating them like guests. My mother in law means well, but is really not as helpful as she thinks. She's pretty high-maintenance. And neither me or my husband really feel like a live-in guest is a good idea right when we bring him home. We really want to be at home with the baby and our pets and bond together in the peace and quiet of our home. So the question is...how do we tactfully make his parents get a hotel room? I'm due in 2 weeks.
Just to clarify, my huband is his own boss and will not be working for the first two weeks, and my mother and sister will be helping a lot, just not living with us. Thanks for all your great advice!
