What should I do about knee pain after cycling?

I've been a bicycle commuter for the last year and a half, averaging about 200 miles per month. I ride about eight miles one-way and never have any problems with my knees. I've recently started training for a century ride and Sunday, I went for a hilly 30-mile ride.

Toward the end of my trip, my knees were sore -- specifically my knee caps. They were a little sore when walking or climbing stairs for a couple of hours after I got off the bike. After that, they were fine.

I took a day off from biking and rode to work this morning. During my ride, my knees ached a little, but now, off the bike, they're okay.

Is something I should expect from training? Will it ease go away after a while? Should I see a doctor about it?
