What should I buy, to go off roading with my 2000 ford ranger 2wd 2.5l truck?

My dad gave me his ford ranger recently, and I sold my honda accord for 2,000. Now I have 2000 dollers laying around to spend on my truck. I soon want to go off roading with it. What should I buy? I was thinking of working with the peformance first, than raising it 3", than add bull bars, and bigger tires. Than I may add a sound system.
