What should be the rules for determining if same sex couple is good enough?

Companies and universities often offer benefits to same sex couples. The application form for these benefits asks questions such as "are you in an intimate relationship" and "would you be able to marry your partner if your partner was the opposite sex in your state of residence". Does anyone else see these rules as unfair and ludicrous. What business is it of these companies/universities how intimate they are? Why are they giving anyone any benefits at all?
 
Sometimes you have to jump through a few hoops... Just remember, while protest and all is good, it is never good to bite the hand that feeds you.
 
I agree, it's completely ludicrous. Do they ask these same questions of opposite-sex couples?

I don't understand what make same-sex couples so remarkable; we are the same as everybody else except for the fact that we do not have equal protection in front of the law.

It's quite sad.
