My school covered pretty much everything. They even showed us a video of a women giving birth! And yet today, I'm browsing Y!A and I see a question asked by a father who found out his 14 year old daughter was having sex. Obviously he was upset. And now, look at one girl's response.

"im 13 , and i had sex a cuple of weeks ago and my mum and dad found out , they wasnt too happy and were dissapointed in me! , as i only knew the guy for about a night, but everyone has sex, 14 isnt that bad, just put her on the pill and she will be fine."

It's as if she's never heard of an STD!

What did you learn in school about sex, and how old were you?

In grade 6 (11 or 12 at the time) we learned a bit about the female and male reproductive system. In grade 9 ( 14 at the time) we were taught how babies are made and about STDs, contraception etc... Alot was covered in our mandatory gym/health class.

I've been taught about it since 5th grade. Every year, sex ed was more in depth.
5th grade- don't do it, wait wait until you are older, it is how babies are made
6th grade-sexual contact puts you at risk for STDs, which are infections that could never go away and are even deadly. to avoid these, condoms or just dont do it
7th grade- how the repoductive systems work
8th grade- all about hormones and different types of STDs
9th grade- STDs in depth (what are they, symptoms, treatments etc), different types of contraceptives, why teenagers are so eager to have sex, reasons not to do it, how to be safe (just in case because the teachers know that teens do it anyway) and everything in depth along those lines.
