Do we only use the m4 for more compact areas

also I was reading in wikipeida and it said the m4 was replacing the m16

Does this mean it replaced it in general or is it only used more in cqc urban combat Afghanistan

Do we only use the m4 for cqc and urban combat

do we use the m16 for more open combat and longer ranges
