I'm going to Navy boot camp in a few months, under the nuke program, and I want to be an officer some day, applying for the STA-21 package after 21 months of service. Of course, it is a package I will need to apply for, and they want people with a sense of leadership. Seeing as I am interested in becoming a Nuclear Navy Officer, I was wondering what being a squad leader in boot camp entails and how much it improves your chances of gaining a leadership position in the future. I know doing well in A school and post-boot camp training helps, because they keep everything in your record, but being a squad leader is just another way to show your dedication to leadership. If anyone knows the stresses and responsibilities of a Navy squad leader at boot camp, let me know.
