I am 50 and know next to nothing about laptops and just a little bit about using a desktop pc. My neighbor is 68 yrs old and had this laptop so cluttered up she couldn't even play the factory installed solitaire game or get on the net anymore. I have managed to uninstall enough stuff that I can get it to connect to another neighbors wireless internet connection and most other things to work,but it takes FOREVER to load up when I first start it up. I know how to get into task manager to see all the running processes and use run msconfig to turn off start up items. Problem is that I do not know what is actually needed to run this puter or what I can safely turn off to speed up starting it up. I am also getting some error messages I have never seen on my desktop. She could probably use this pc the way it is now but if I dont get the kinks out of it befor she gets it back then its just a matter of time before it goes wacko again! Any and all help with this blind leading the blind type project will be GREATLY APPRECIATED!! Many Thanks ahead of time!!
Is something wrong with this pc or is there something wrong with randys acct/answer? It has an incomplete url under it on this end and somebody thumbed the other two answers. Strange. Anyways, one of the tech sites had ad for something called "Registery Booster" which I have downloaded but am afraid to run because messing with the registery scares the crap out of me to begin with, especially with somebody elses pc, does anyone know anything about this program? Will it automatically do stuff that I might need to undo later, but dont know how?? I am in over my head on this one folks, HELP!
Wow! you make it sound sooo easy! Gotta get supper going for the old man but will go google what TSRs are and check out those sites later tonight. Start up isnt the only problem though, but I will deal with which program this thing is using to get on the net and whether or not those programs are in conflict/fighting with another question. I have already lost my cool and called this thing a few choice names more than once and cant handle to much at same time. The modern day youth that have grown up with puters in school dont know how lucky they really are!! Oh well, will be backafter supper if I can. Thanks again!
