I have a Mitsubishi Lancer VRX 2012 model. I want to customise the exhaust/muffler to make the car sound just that nicer with a good tone.
I've been to a few exhaust shops and they have all been between the $160 - $180 (AUD) mark have said this is the price for a typical 'sports kit'. I'm by no means a car guru, so I don't know really what that is.
Before I go ahead with this, I'm making sure that it doesn't void the warranty and/or insurance.
I've called Mitsubishi and my dealer, who have both said the same thing. The warranty will not cover damages caused by any modification you have made to your vehicle. So if another problem occurs, irrelevant to the modification, the warranty will cover it. It is only if they can prove that this modification is the fault will they not cover it.
So now my only concern is what problems can a faulty exhaust/muffler/sports kit cause if installed incorrectly or because of a poor quality product, because the warranty will NOT cover these expenses. I.e. I have to make sure no significant damage can happen so I'm not left without a car or with a huge bill because of a simple exhaust modification.
Will these problems be expensive? Will it be gradual or long term damage? Can it potentially damage things like the motor? What are the chances of this happening? What are all the problems an exhaust/muffler can cause to a car? How much would it be to repair these problems?
