What phone would you recommend

This is going to be my first cell phone (yeah, I know) and I'm fresh out of highschool. The parents tell me I need to get a pre-paid virgin mobile plan.

I did a little research and found out the the top 2 pre paid phones are:

Virgin Kyocera Sonic slider
and the Nokia 6101.

My questions are:

If I get a nokia 6101 could I unlock it to use a VM plan?
What phones will let me upload my music, so that I could use them as my ringtones?
Besides these two phones, what phones would be ideal choices?

Will you be using this phone a lot or is more for emergencies? If you will be using it a lot a contract phone will be a better deal in the long run. Sorry I can't help ya about unlocking the 6101 though.
 
6101 sucks...the incoming call volume frequently gets very low

whats the point of having a cell if you can't hear anyone?
 
i suggest neither of those phones and i definatly DONT suggest that plan. Cingular has a great setup called "Pay as you go". my girlfriend uses it because she mainly talks to me and it has unlimited mobile to mobile for $1 a day. so if you mainly talk to Cingular subscribers, then thats a good pick (she rarely spends more than $30 a month). they also have Pick your plan, which is kind of a prepaid service becuase its like having a normal plan but without the 2-year contract and monthly bill... go to a local Cingular store and they will hook you up with all that info.

also if you tell us your budget on how much you want to spend and what features you want on a phone, we can find the perfect phone for you. hope this helps you out.

I want something I can also play Doom RPG and a few new mobile games on.
But thats just for kicks and giggles.
If the Kyocera and the 6101 aren't good pre-paid, what are?
 
if you are going to talk 100-150 min, i would suggest a sprint plan that isant prepaid. They have a cheap plan... $29.99 you get 200 min and free calling calling to anyone after 7 plus on weekends. The only reason i dont suggest prepaid is because i had it and it gets exspensive. But what ever floats your boat
