What paint do I need to refurbish a fibreglass kayak?

My dad was given a 12 - 13 ft kayak by a couple he was working for. It is a project for me and I want to 'do it up' over summer or before if the british weather is warm. I believe that it is fibreglass and wanted to know what type of spray paint, or other paint i would need to create the pattern i require. I was going for reptile effect or New Zealand style patterns. But do i need to send it to a specialist, or do i just need a water resistant paint, that wont peel? It will only be for pure leisure, using a local lake every week, once a week.
