my kitchen is open to the family room where I have a tan sofa and a red and golden yellow area rug.

Honey Maple....using the color wheel what is your complimentary color to (a yellow type color), on the wheel yellow's compliment is violet. But, I don't know how that would go over in your living room, or kitchen. But also, there are many different shades, and tints from that beginning. Yellow is a typically good color for a kitchen, but what color?? Get a lot of different color samples from your local paint retailer, and look at them in the settings you are talking about. Don't rush you decision, once you paint (and that is a lot of work), you won't want to be too quick to repaint, if you pick the wrong one.

Benjamin Moore Paint Collections offers high quality finishes in a wide range of colors either The Regal Aquavelvet or the Pristine (for cleaner air). FRom the aquavelvet collection try White Coffee #50 with an accent color of Segovia Red #1288. From the Pristine Line Try Waterbury Cream # HC-31

actually any color will go with your cabinets the red tones you talk about is your main color you have to match and like i said anything will go with your kitchen and your sofa

Choose a soft sage green. Everything goes with it and it makes all colors pop. You can add purple, red, black, greens, yellows in accessories and it will all work perfectly. Sages are also considered a neutral like taupe which is why so many colors work with them.

For cabinets and surface finishes that may sustain damage during long use, serviceability is a consideration. Solid wood can be repaired by furniture refinishing to achieve excellent matches to surrounding wood finishes.

Kitchens are larger and have more cabinets; some kitchens may have as many as fifty drawers and cabinet doors. New features today include deep drawers for cookware, pull-out shelves to avoid excess bending, sponge trays on the front of sink cabinets, pullout hideaway garbage/recycling containers, pull-out spice cabinets, lazy susans in corner cabinets, vertical storage for cookie sheets, full-extension drawer slides, and drawers and doors with so-called soft-close/positive-close mechanisms enabling drawers to shut quietly, or which shut fully after being pushed only partially.

Kitchen Cabinets

Choosing the colors of your kitchen, walls and cabinets is probably the most important decision in your redesign, as it will affect how your finished room looks and feels. In most kitchens, there is an unspoken divide between the eating area and the cooking areas. Most would agree that these two areas should consist of different colors. Choose a stimulating color for the cooking area and cabinets and a warmer more relaxed tone for the eating area. Stimulating colors include red, orange, yellow or any other bright color. Relaxing colors are generally darker blues, greens and purples. Keep in mind you do not necessarily have to have two colors - you may instead choose different shades of the same color. Keep in mind, your kitchen is not a separate unit, but part of your home as a whole. If the rest of your decor is shaded in soft neutral colors, a hot pink kitchen just won't mesh. Continue with the same types of colors that already exist in your home, but do not limit yourself - be creative, but also complementary.
