What paint and brushes should I use for a wall mural?

I'm painting a wall mural of a tree silhouette. The wall I'm painting it on is painted with cream colored interior paint in a satin sheen, and I'm going to paint the tree with dark chocolate brown. What type of brushes should I use and what paint? Can I just use a regular interior paint? And when it's finished do I need to put anything else on it to preserve it or anything like that?
