what off road cars are similar to jeeps? need help buying new car?

i would really love a jeep but they are just to expensive and the fuel consumption is terrible. does anyone know of any cars that are similar?

suzuki vitara is very similar

i would like it to come in a soft top option aswell, so i can take the roof down..

You could look at some YJ Wrangler's. They're considerable less than the TJ model, and come in a 2.5L, 4 cyl. engine. Not sure if they still make them though, so if you're looking for a new car....sorry.
