What military tactics are used to combat terrorism?

Could anybody please tell me.

I will be grateful for any information you can give me - only I have looked on the internet and have failed to find any.

This is for assignment purposes - I study Uniformed Public Services (just incase you were wondering).

I taught counter terrorism / counter insurgency for 15 years.....

The tactics for fighting both are basically the same....

Simply put you must do two things.....

ONE..... In that terrorists and insurgents can not exist without the support or at least tolerance of the civilian population ......you must "win the hearts and mind" of the civilian population......bring them back to the side of the government..... this is not as simple as being their "friend'..... it is a very complex operation (Civil Affairs)

TWO.....You must keep the tactical pressure on the terrorists and the people supporting them ...... take the battle to them.....keep them off balance.....
There is no way to "defend" against terrorism..... defense against terrorism slows it down but does not stop it.....eventually the terrorist will hit his target
