I know this girl who can never hold a conversation. She is a complete mute and the only words that come out of her mouth are "Yes", "No", "Ok", "Oh" and "I don't know". She has never had a job in her life and she is 22 years old and she seems really slow but she speaks fine if she actually talks. If I ask her what she likes to do for fun or ask her about hobbies/interests, she always says "I don't know". I was reading about symptoms for a mental illness that describe a lot of how she acts in situations but I can't remember the illness. But someone who has this illness has a difficult time holding conversations and they tend to give closed responses to everything. Like if I ask her if she has any brothers or sisters she just replies with "Yes". Then there is an awkward pause then I ask "well what do you have?" Then she doesn't say anything and there is just a glazed over look in her eye like she's not even paying attention. Then I ask again, "what do you have"? And she just replies back with "What do you mean"? Then I say "Do you have a brother or a sister?" And it takes her 5 minutes to answer the question with "Brother". So when I ask her if she has any brothers or sisters, she can't just say "I have a brother, his name is blablabla". She never leaves any room for an open discussion. Then just now she told me that she's burning a CD and I wanted to get to know her better so I ask, "Oh, cool. What music?" And she just replies with "new stuff". We've been on this conversation for 20 minutes and she still hasn't told me what music she's burning. I keep telling her I'm just curious and she just says "oh" or "ok". But then doesn't answer the question. If I ask her anything that isn't a yes or no question, she does not answer it and she turns it into a yes or no question. I just wanna get to know her better and I remember reading about a mental illness that described a lot of what she does and the way she acts. Does anyone know what I'm talking about?
