What Medication for Pet Allergies??

I have and practically live with 2 dogs and Im always in the same room with them.I was wondering is there a Medication over the counter to help me deal with this problem?? Im not 100% sure is just the dogs but if it is would Zyrtec help:confused:
 
Zyrtec would definitely be the best option for you. It is available without a prescription and there are generic versions available that will be cheaper than the brand name (the active ingredient is Cetirizine so check the label on the generics to make sure that's what you're buying).

In order for it to help you'll need to take it every day since it sounRAB like you're around the dogs a lot. If you wait to take it when you're having symptoms it won't help as much.

You might also consider putting a room HEPA air filter in your bedroom and trying to keep the bedroom clean of any dog hair - there's only so much the meRAB can do if you're constantly exposed to allergens.
 
The problem is that not only am I around the dogs alot but I am selling my house so the dogs stay down in the basement with me for most of the day.I know my sister has pet allergies.Is the Zrtec where the prescription medicine is kept or is it in the store like regular aspirin is?? I jhope its not to expensive.
 
Zyrtec is available without a prescription and should be out on the shelf with the other allergy medications. Brand name Zyrtec is a little expensive but some places have generic Cetirizine (same active ingredient as Zyrtec) that's fairly inexpensive - if you're a Costco meraber you can get 300 tablets for about $20.
 
Benadryl use to work for me but not so much this year.Also I hate that lethargic feeling and I seem to always gain weight when taking Benadryl.I hope Zrtec does not have those drowsy side affects.
 
WalMart generally has it for $16.47 for 45 pills. Or oyu can order from Canada for $25 including shipping.
 
One other thing that can be done. In a spray bottle, dilute apple cider vinegar and water, 1/3vinegar to 2/3rRAB water. Saturate a small towel with the mixture and rub it into the coat of the animal, they like the smell, it's natural. Don't get it in their eyes. The vinegar smell dissipates when it's dry.

Don't dry the coat, let it air dry. It conditions the skin, cuts down on dander which is the stuff that makes people allergic the most.

You'll notice that not only does it help their skin but their fur will be so soft and shiny.

In the winter months where I live, I get flakes in my hair from the dry weather, I use this mixture on my own hair and it takes care of it.

Thanks for that information.I have a 9 year old 110lb siberian husky mix and soon tom be very big 3 month old German Shepard.I think winter allergies are not as bad but I never are completelt free of them.
 
I must say, I was reading my post and had to giggle, when I put this mixture on my own hair, I DO rinse it out, then shampoo. lol.

Sometimes when I use it on the dogs, I'll towel it off, if their fur is dirty, it takes out dirt too. I also use it in between their shoulder blades and then let it dry before using frontline med. on them, it takes a bunch of the oils out of the fur on that area and allows the frontline to soak in faster.
