What makes a great theme song?

I guess this can be subjective, but overall what are the key factors in making a great and memoriable theme song for a cartoon? This can include factors such as the music score, to the actual animation. You can also include examples from not so great theme songs. What made them so bad, what could have made them better, etc.

One factor that immediately comes to mind is lyrics. If you choose the lyrics route, it should be catchy yet have a great way at tying the show together. A few examples include Tiny Toons, Animaniacs, Fairly Odd Parents, and Power Puff Girls (although the theme is narrarated, not sung).

It has to be something catchy that can get stuck in your head.

The lyrics and rhythm are important. I think the beat is also a big deal. A catchy beat is really good.

It's got to get the point of the show across, and a catchy tune is a must. Even some of the worst shows of the 80's at least had a great theme song that would get stuck in your head.
