I have a 2002 Honda Civic sedan with almost 95K miles on it. I've never had any service on it except oil changes, tire replacement and once I had to get a new battery. I took it to a "quick lube" place to have the air filter and spark plugs checked a few months ago, but they said that everything looked fine to them. It was only in the shop 15 minutes, so I asked them what they had time to check and they said "Hondas are good for 150,000 miles." I wasn't really satisfied with this generic answer. I hear that dealerships overcharge and small garages are noted for ripping off customers added to the fact they service all makes and may not have parts for foreign cars. The service would be delayed if they have to order parts and wait for them to come in. The engine malfunction light came on 2 weeks ago. Advance Auto said the code was P1457 which indicates a problem in the emission system. They deleted the code and the light has not come back on but since then it's been idling roughly and seems to drag on even a slow acceleration. Could this have anything to do with the change in performance? Where should I take it and what should be done at 95K miles?
P.S. I should add that I'm an older woman that doesn't have the tools or knowledge to do anything but put gas in the tank and turn on the ignition.
