I want to start taking some street photos but I don't want to get extreamly close to my subjects....what lens do you use for your street photography?
Maybe I should have added that I use a Canon XSI...
the more I do some research it looks like to get really great street photos you should use a small wide lens....35 to 50 mm ..... does that sound about right?

Using film, usually the Canon 50mm f/1.4 on a Canon A-1. That is one of my favourite setups of all my camera and lens combos, it is discreet and produces great results. I don't use my DSLR for much street, but as a walkabout I like to still use the Canon 35-135mm f/4, it make quite a good street photography lens too.

I do not do much street photography to be honest, but if I do not have an SLR on me I usually always have my trusty Olympus XA2 in my pocket. So I guess the lens that I use the most for street photography is the one on the XA2! (Zuiko 35mm f/3.5)

.

I use the 80-200 f/2.8, though sometimes I like to go wide and use an 18-55, when using the 18 I get close, but don't bring the camera up to my eye, you get good at 'shooting from the hip'
