What laptop brand is better Asus or Sony? Please advise!?

Hi. I'm looking to buy a laptop for no more than £500 ($780) and i'm just wondering which make I should go for. I think the best 2 brands are Sony and Asus, as far as I know. I just want a nice looking, good battery life and good enough performance (im not looking to play games on the laptop). Please let me know your opinions guys!
